Getting to Know the UCLS Faculty and Staff

Miss Cheryl Honoree

Besides my duties as principal of our school, I teach art once a week to each of our classrooms.  This is an exciting, welcome time for me to spend a few minutes with our students doing something I love.

I live in Altenburg where I enjoy being in the center of town and a beautiful view at the same time.  I am single and have no children, but my elderly mother lives with me.  I am a member at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna.

I received my BSed from Concordia University in Seward, NE in 1981.  I received a Masters in Educational Administration at Concordia in 2009 and a Masters in Educational Theory and Practice from Arkansas State University in 2011.  Since receiving my undergraduate degree, I have spent 34 years teaching and/or administrating in 5 different Lutheran schools in Pennsylvania, Florida, Arkansas and Missouri.

I enjoy being active at my church by being a choir member, serving on the Endowment Fund Committee and helping with dinners.  I also enjoy the community in which I live and am involved as a docent at the Lutheran Heritage Museum in Altenburg and active with the Frohna Friendship Circle.

I love serving at United in Christ Lutheran School.  We have good students who work hard to do the right thing.  We have great parents who highly value a good education and a strong work ethic.  We have an amazing staff that is dedicated to helping every child achieve their potential.  And we have supportive congregations and communities who pray for us, follow what is happening here, and generously give to the mission of United in Christ Lutheran School.

Mrs. Ashley Ponder

I received my first call to be the preschool teacher at UCLS in 2011. I was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin (just south of Milwaukee.. Go Brewers!) I had the blessing of attending a Lutheran school my entire life. I graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 2006 and then from Concordia University Wisconsin in May of 2011. I majored in Early Childhood Education and had a concentration in Special Education.

In July 2013, I married Luke Ponder and we live in Altenburg. We attend Trinity Lutheran Church. We are counselors for LYF and lead the High School Bible class on Sunday mornings. We really enjoy going to Cardinal/ Brewer games and spending time with our families.

Living in East Perry County has been a huge blessing for me. I love living in this small rural community. It is so nice to be away from all of the city noise! I really enjoy being at UCLS because of the family like atmosphere. Teachers and staff work very well together and I truly consider them my family. I enjoy all of the kiddos and their parents. It is a pleasure to be teaching children who have a passionate love for our Lord. I also appreciate the parent support and dedication. Without the love from our community, churches and families, UCLS would not be what it is today. Thank you for your dedication!

Mrs. Nelda Koeberl

I teach Kindergarten.  I live with my husband Bill in Frohna, Mo.  We have been married for 37 years.  I have one brother living in Altamont, IL where I grew up.  I am a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Mo.  I am the Adult Choir director and attend the Sunday morning Bible Class.  I am also a member of the Altar Guild and serve help serve funeral luncheons.  I have a BS in Education from Illinois State University in Normal, IL and completed the colloquy program at River Forest, IL.  Teaching at UCLS gives me the unique opportunity to touch the lives of children by sharing the love of Jesus with them.

Grades 1 & 2
Mrs. Deborah Lichtenegger

I live in Frohna, Missouri with my family.  I have been married for over 20 years to David Lichtenegger. We have two children, Nathan and Adam—both of whom attend Saxony Lutheran High School in Fruitland.  I am a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where I sing in the choir.

In 1990, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in behavioral science.  Then in 2013, I obtained my Colloquy from Concordia University in Chicago.  I love teaching at UCLS because I can share my faith and love for education with my students.  This school is great because of the foundation upon which it was built.

Grades 3 & 4

Grades 5 & 6

 Grades 7 & 8
 Mrs. Robyn Koenig

It is my privilege to spend each day with the UCLS 7th & 8th Graders  teaching the various subjects within the Language Arts, American and World History, and Pre-Algebra; Mrs. Lichtenegger and I also switch for 7th & 8th grade Science and 5th & 6th Grade Geography, as well as once a week I get to teach 3rd & 4th Grade Music.

I have lived in many states on the West Coast, but in 1996 landed in Farrar, MO, taking a teaching position at Salem Lutheran School and eventually also teaching music at Altenburg Public School for two years.  I hold a special place yet for the “city”, but cannot imagine living elsewhere or raising my children anywhere besides Perry County.

One of the blessings God gave me when coming to Perry County was meeting and marrying Tim Koenig and becoming a part of his wonderful family. The Lord has blessed us with four beautiful children who run our schedule, like all other families, and bring joy to our lives every day.  We are members at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar.

In 1988, I began my BS in Elementary Ed and Music at Christ College Irvine, CA.  In 1991 I transferred to and then graduated in 1993, from Concordia, Seward.  Since living in MO I have taken a number of graduate hours at Southeast Missouri State University and through the MO e-learning courses on-line.

Currently I also serve as organist and choir director at Salem.   As our family is very involved in 4-H I have been a volunteer Clover Club leader and Perry County 4-H Council member.

I like being at UCLS because it is an environment where Christ is at the center of every day; we have the God-given blessings of wonderful and loving children in our classrooms, and the opportunity to plant and share the seed of the Gospel each day.

Mr. Eric Seibel

I teach instrumental music at UCLS.  Before coming to UCLS, I served as an assistant band director at Perryville High School for twenty-five years.  I first began my teaching career in northern Missouri.

I live outside Perryville with my wife Janet, an elementary music teacher in the Perry County District 32 School system.  We have one daughter, Martha, who teaches music at the Concordia International School Hanoi, Vietnam.

We are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church Perryville.  I serve as the director of the Men’s Choir and my wife is the accompanist.  She also serves as organist for church services twice a month.

I received my Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Art Degree from the University of Central Missouri.  I have also completed post-graduate work at Truman State University.  I presently serve as an adjunct instructor at the Higher Education Center in Perryville.

I am most pleased that our Savior has provided me with the opportunity to teach at UCLS.  To begin each day by giving praise in Chapel cannot be improved.  Teaching here also provides me the chance to share my love of music with another generation.  It is great to hear the students’ progress their musical skills throughout the school year, especially the beginners.
